14 second-year MBBS students suspended for ragging at GMC Kamareddy
The college principal stated that the disciplinary action follows a complaint forwarded to the National Medical Commission by freshers.
Fourteen second-year MBBS students at the Government Medical College (GMC), Kamareddy, have been suspended following a ragging complaint, according to The Hindu.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) forwarded the complaint to the college after receiving a representation from fresher students. The college's anti-ragging committee conducted an inquiry into the matter and initiated disciplinary proceedings.
Principal Dr. B. Valya said the incident involved second-year students who do not live in the college hostel.
He stated these students were found on the campus after entering a restricted section of the hostel where freshers and final-year students stay.
One student provided a different account, claiming the complaint arose because seniors expected juniors to greet them with ‘good morning’ wishes frequently.
As part of the disciplinary action, four students have received a six-month suspension, while 10 others have been suspended for four months.
Dr. Valya added that the college is currently preparing to submit an action-taken report to the NMC.
