Assam to develop five ropeway projects with Centre
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a joint company will be formed to implement the connectivity projects.
The Assam government will implement five ropeway projects across the state through a partnership with the Government of India, according to The Assam Tribune reported on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that a joint company will be established for this purpose, with the Centre holding a 51 per cent share and the state government holding a 49 per cent share.
The proposed routes include a 1.43-km line from Kamakhya Railway Station to Kamakhya Temple in Kamrup Metropolitan, and an 11-km route from Khanapara to Guwahati Railway Station in the same district.
Other projects involve a route from Ganganagar Part-VII to Bhuban Pahar Mahadev Temple in Barak Valley, a 3.50-km line from Jatinga Bird Watching Tower to Hempupet Peak in Dima Hasao, and a 1.80-km project from Agnigarh Hill to Bhairabi Temple in Sonitpur.
Sarma noted that the Kamakhya Railway Station-to-Kamakhya Temple project has seen significant progress, while the others are currently at the pre-Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved 13 state-level sectoral councils to oversee welfare schemes and the Guwahati Satellite City Development Authority Rules, 2026.
