Assam Cabinet relaxes promotion norms to create entry-level jobs
The decision aims to expedite promotions for government employees in 2027 and 2028 by easing eligibility criteria.
The Assam Cabinet has approved a one-time administrative framework to speed up promotions for government employees in 2027 and 2028, according to The Assam Tribune.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that the move will relax eligibility criteria, including qualifying service, Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs), age, experience, and Annual Property Returns.
Sarma stated that the decision aims to facilitate promotions for more employees, which will subsequently create vacancies at the entry level in government departments.
The Chief Minister explained that departments can now relax qualifying service requirements, noting that previously employees had to serve seven or 12 years in certain positions. He added that while three years of ACRs were once required, one year of ACR can now make an employee eligible.
The Cabinet also approved increasing the upper age limit for retired Indian Army personnel applying for Grade III and Grade IV posts from 42 to 45 years.
These decisions are intended to streamline government service administration and address long-pending vacancies in higher positions.
