IPS officer Anurag Sujania resigns after Sagar hooch death probe
The 2014-batch officer submitted his resignation following his transfer from Sagar to the police headquarters in Bhopal.
IPS officer Anurag Sujania has resigned on Monday, according to The Times of India. Sujania was overseeing the investigation into the Sagar hooch tragedy that occurred earlier in September.
The resignation comes four days after the state government moved him from his position as Sagar SP to the role of assistant inspector general (AIG) at the police headquarters (PHQ) in Bhopal. The transfer, issued on October 27, was part of a reshuffle that included the collectors and SPs of the Dewas and Sagar districts.
Sources in the police establishment stated that the officer was unhappy with the sudden transfer. Sujania could not be reached for comment.
The investigation in Sagar follows the Banda hooch tragedy, where the consumption of illegal poisonous liquor resulted in at least 16 confirmed deaths. While official figures state 16 deaths, unofficial estimates suggest the toll is around 36.
Sujania, a 2014-batch IPS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has previously served as SP in Tikamgarh, Morena, Mandsaur, and Sagar. He has been replaced in Sagar by Sanjeev Kumar Sinha.
