Manipur constitutes peace committees in all 16 districts

The committees will include community leaders, civil society organisations, and local media to promote dialogue and confidence-building measures across the state.

The Manipur government has formed peace committees in all 16 districts of the state to promote peace-building efforts, according to a Rediff report.

The home department issued an official order on October 30 regarding the decision, which was shared with the media on Tuesday. The order stated the move was taken in view of the prevailing law and order situation.

Each 11-member committee will be chaired by the respective district magistrate. Other members will include the Superintendent of Police, sub-divisional officers (SDOs), sub-deputy collectors (SDCs), and district-level officers from relevant departments.

The committees will also consist of representatives from different communities, including community leaders, civil society organisations (CSOs), and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Other members will include local media, journalists, and retired government officers and employees. The committees aim to strengthen peace-building through sustained dialogue and community engagement.
