The enforcement drive targeted businesses operating in residential areas that were causing inconvenience to residents and obstructing vehicular movement.
The Bengaluru South City Corporation sealed 63 commercial establishments operating illegally in residential areas during a special enforcement drive, according to The Hindu.
Officials conducted the drive across several wards, including J.P. Nagar, Koramangala, Madiwala, and Ejipura. The highest number of closures occurred in the BTM Layout Assembly constituency, where 30 shops were shut.
Other areas affected included the Bengaluru South constituency with 10 establishments, Bommanahalli with nine, Padmanabhanagar with eight, Jayanagar with four, and the Anekal Assembly constituency with two.
The establishments sealed included bakeries, eateries, salons, beauty parlours, hardware stores, and fruit and vegetable outlets. The Corporation stated that commercial operations are prohibited on roads narrower than 40 feet in residential areas.
Officials noted that several businesses continued to operate without valid trade licences despite receiving notices and instructions to vacate. The Corporation said these establishments were causing inconvenience to residents and obstructing vehicular movement.
Commissioner K.N. Ramesh warned that strict legal action would be taken against establishments operating illegally or without the necessary licences.
