Cyclone Murasu weakens into depression over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

The weather system is expected to transition into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours, according to the IMD.

Severe cyclonic storm Murasu weakened into a deep depression over east Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system was moving northwards at 10 kmph as of 5:30 am on November 4, reported by Hindustan Times.

The depression was positioned near Nandigama in Andhra Pradesh and Khammam in Telangana. The IMD stated that the system will probably transition into a well-marked low-pressure area over the coming 12 hours.

The storm's impact has been felt across 15 districts, where floodwater submerged standing crops. In the worst-hit areas, including Prakasam, Bapatla, Nandyal, and Krishna, powerful winds uprooted thousands of trees and damaged approximately 2,750 electricity poles.

Train services on the Vijayawada-Ongole-Gudur route were temporarily suspended on Tuesday. Vijayawada Division PRO Nusrat M. Mandrupkar said 29 trains were affected, with 19 UP and 10 DOWN trains under regulation.

Amaravati Meteorological Department scientist S. Karuna Sagar noted that the cyclone's intensity might decrease from Tuesday night. He predicted heavy rainfall for districts including Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, Palnadu, NTR, Eluru, and West Godavari.

The IMD forecast heavy to very heavy rain for isolated parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh on November 4. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also expected in Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
