Hackers target French blood plasma storage refrigeration systems
The French Blood Establishment reported that a cyberattack attempted to raise storage temperatures at three sites before being detected.
Hackers targeted refrigeration systems at three French blood bank sites on Monday, attempting to raise storage temperatures to extremely high levels, according to the Times of India.
The incident targeted a supplier of refrigeration equipment used by the French Blood Establishment (EFS), which manages the country's blood collection and distribution network.
The EFS said in a statement on Tuesday that monitoring and alarm systems detected the irregularities, allowing staff to intervene before any blood products or samples were compromised.
The EFS stated that no health consequences have been identified and no blood products were lost, as all affected items were secured or transferred as a precaution.
The facilities involved stored plasma bags for transfusions and plasma used for manufacturing medicines, but the EFS said blood collection and distribution operations remain uninterrupted.
France's national cybersecurity agency, ANSSI, and the health ministry are currently investigating the incident.
