Nine-year-old girl dies after collapsing in Delhi classroom

The Class 3 student was taken to a hospital in Nirman Vihar where doctors declared her dead on Wednesday.

A nine-year-old Class 3 student died after collapsing in a classroom at a school in Mayur Vihar Phase 2, Delhi, on Wednesday, according to The Times of India.

The girl was taken to Malik Redix Health Care in Nirman Vihar, where medical professionals declared her dead. Preliminary information suggests a possible heart attack may have caused the death, though the exact cause is awaited following a post-mortem report.

CCTV footage from the school reportedly shows the student walking through indoor areas and climbing stairs with other children before the incident. In the classroom, the girl was seen talking to her teacher and appearing tired after a games period before she suddenly fell to the floor.

The teacher attempted to lift the child and place her on a chair, but she remained unconscious. Bhaskar English reported that the girl's chin was bleeding after the fall. School staff then moved her from the room to seek medical help.

The girl's family alleged that the school lacked sufficient medical facilities for emergencies despite high fees and questioned why CPR was not administered. The school principal responded that staff believed she lost consciousness due to her facial injury and decided to transport her to the hospital immediately.

Delhi Police received a PCR call regarding the incident at approximately 9.52am on November 4. Investigators are currently examining CCTV footage and evidence, and they are yet to record statements from the parents and school authorities.
