Harish Rao demands relocation of Maheshwaram medical college within two months
The BRS leader criticised the Congress government for failing to provide basic infrastructure and utility payments for the medical institution.
BRS deputy leader T Harish Rao on Wednesday demanded that the Congress government move the Government Medical College at Maheshwaram to a facility with proper amenities within two months. According to Telangana Today, Rao made the demand during a visit to a three-day protest camp at Mangalpally in the Ibrahimpatnam constituency.
Rao spoke with students and parents, and also contacted Rangareddy District Collector Narayana Reddy and Director of Medical Education (DME) Vani Devi by phone. He requested that officials visit the protest site and provide a written commitment to relocate the college to a government or rented building, preferably near TIMS-LB Nagar or Vanasthalipuram.
The former Health Minister alleged that the college lacks essential services such as drinking water, functional toilets, laboratories, a library, and hostel housing. He also noted that students must walk nearly two kilometres from the main road because buses and private vehicles are not allowed inside the campus.
Rao claimed the government has not settled rent, electricity, or water bills for 26 months. He stated that the building owner reported these dues have been unpaid since the premises were taken over on August 1, 2024. He further alleged the building lacks an occupancy certificate, fire safety clearance, and Pollution Control Board clearance.
The BRS leader questioned why Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha have not addressed these lapses. He noted that the previous BRS government sanctioned the college in 2022-23, allocating Rs 182 crore and 25 acres of land for the project.
