Telangana receives heavy rain as IMD issues red warning
Bhadradri Kothagudem recorded the state's highest rainfall on Wednesday as a depression moved over east Telangana.
Telangana experienced heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red warning for Bhadradri Kothagudem, according to Urban Acres.
The Telangana Development Planning Society reported that Aswaraopeta in Bhadradri Kothagudem received 276.8 mm of rain between 8.30am and 3pm. Other areas recorded significant rainfall during the same period, including Malkaram with 188.3 mm, Ankampalem with 175 mm, and Mulakalapally with 148.5 mm.
The IMD's 24-hour data until 8.30am on Wednesday showed Bhadrachalam received 103 mm, while Khammam recorded 45 mm. No rain was recorded at other stations including Hyderabad, Adilabad, Hanamkonda, Nizamabad, and Ramagundam.
The weather system developed after Cyclone Murasu weakened into a depression over east Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh. On Wednesday morning, the depression was located approximately 10 km southwest of Khammam and was moving north at about 6 kmph.
The IMD issued an orange alert for Khammam and yellow warnings for Mulugu and Mahabubabad. The agency warned that heavy rain could lead to waterlogging, disrupt road and rail traffic, and affect electricity and water supplies.
Rainfall is expected to continue, with light to moderate rain forecast for Hyderabad and isolated heavy rain for Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mahabubabad on Thursday, November 5. Dry weather is expected from November 8 to 10.
