Parts of Delhi record severe air pollution on Wednesday morning

The overall air quality in the capital remained in the very poor category as several areas hit severe levels.

Many parts of Delhi, including ITO, Dwarka, Rohini, Punjabi Bagh, Alipur, Bawana, and Jahangirpuri, recorded severe air pollution on Wednesday morning, November 4, 2026, according to The Hindu. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) for Delhi was 379, categorised as very poor, at 9 a.m.

The Times of India reported that Jahangirpuri was the most polluted area with an AQI of 462. Other areas with high pollution levels included DTU at 445, Punjabi Bagh at 449, Vivek Vihar at 425, Mundka at 422, Alipur at 430, Bawana at 421, and North Campus at 405.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) stated that severe level pollution affects healthy people and seriously impacts those with existing diseases. The city's AQI had previously stood at 350 at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) said the share of stubble burning emissions from neighbouring states was expected to rise to 20 per cent by November 4 and 22 per cent by November 5. This contribution was expected to almost equal vehicular pollution.

The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi indicated that the overall air quality is likely to remain in the very poor category for three days. The IITM also expects air quality to be very poor or severe in the next six days.
