Melbourne Renegades beat Hobart Hurricanes on final delivery of WBBL match

A no-ball called against Hobart Hurricanes skipper Nicola Carey on the last ball handed Melbourne Renegades a victory.

Melbourne Renegades defeated Hobart Hurricanes on the final delivery of their Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2026 match on Wednesday. According to Mint, a no-ball called against Hobart Hurricanes captain Nicola Carey during the final over resulted in a win for the Renegades at the Hurricanes' home ground.

Batting first, the Hobart Hurricanes posted 154/7 in 20 overs. Carey, playing her 150th WBBL game, top-scored with 62 runs from 43 balls, including 10 boundaries. Chinelle Henry contributed 36 runs, while no other Hurricanes batters reached double digits.

Melbourne Renegades captain Sophie Molineux took four wickets for 22 runs in her four overs. In the chase, Hayley Matthews and Courtney Webb shared a 69-run partnership for the second wicket. However, the Hurricanes dismissed both players in quick succession, leaving the Renegades needing seven runs from the final over.

Carey bowled the final over and conceded two runs in the first four deliveries. Deandra Dottin hit a boundary through third-man, but a subsequent wide delivery was ruled a no-ball by the third umpire. The replay showed the Hurricanes wicketkeeper collected the ball from in front of the stumps.

The win moved Melbourne Renegades to sixth place in the WBBL 2026 points table with two points. Hobart Hurricanes remain at the bottom of the table.
