IPS officer Anurag Sujania resigns after removal as Sagar SP

The 2014 batch officer submitted his resignation on November 2 following his transfer from the Sagar district.

IPS officer Anurag Sujania has resigned from government service citing personal reasons, according to reports by The Hindu and Hindustan Times. Sujania, a 2014 batch officer, submitted his resignation on November 2 after being transferred from his post as Sagar Superintendent of Police (SP).

Sujania and Sagar Collector Pratibha Pal were removed from their positions on October 27. Following the transfer, Sujania was posted as an assistant inspector general (AIG) at the police headquarters in Bhopal.

The transfer occurred after a hooch tragedy in Sagar district on September 7, where at least 20 people died and 100 others were hospitalised. The state government has since constituted a one-man judicial inquiry led by retired Justice VPS Chauhan to investigate the matter.

A senior IPS officer confirmed that Sujania's resignation request has been forwarded to the state government. While Sujania has not commented, an officer in Sagar told The Hindu that Sujania felt the transfer was unfair because the police had conducted a swift investigation and arrested the accused in the Sagar case.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav convened a meeting of senior police officers at his residence to review the state's law and order situation and discuss curbing the liquor mafia. The State IPS Association also discussed the resignation with the Chief Minister.

The government is yet to decide on the resignation. Sujania previously served as SP in Morena and Mandsaur districts.
