JAC will skip government meeting on Shillong ropeway project
The group intends to submit a letter instead of attending the discussion to demand the relocation of the project.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the ropeway project and for the protection of the Lum Shyllong catchment will not attend a state government meeting scheduled for the evening of November 4 in Shillong.
According to the Meghalaya Monitor, the group decided to send a formal letter to the government in place of physical attendance at the discussion.
During a press conference, JAC functionaries stated that the project needs to be moved to a different location.
In a letter addressed to the Tourism Department, the JAC reiterated its demand for the immediate cancellation of the project at the current Lum Shyllong site and its relocation to an alternative area.
The committee stated that while they are not opposed to the ropeway project in principle, they strictly oppose its present location.
The JAC noted that participating in further discussions would be unproductive as they have already articulated their position through previous engagements.
