Karnataka Rakshana Vedike to launch campaign for Kannadiga job quota in IT
The organisation plans to collect employment data to push for legislation based on the Sarojini Mahishi committee recommendations.
The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) is preparing to launch a public campaign to demand job reservations for Kannadigas in information technology (IT) companies, according to the Deccan Herald.
Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru on Tuesday, KRV president T A Narayana Gowda said the organisation is collecting employment data to assess the representation of Kannadigas across different levels of the IT sector.
Gowda claimed that Kannadigas currently make up only 20-23 per cent of the workforce at IT companies operating in Bengaluru.
He cited IBM as an example, claiming that while over 85 per cent of employees in its Chennai offices are Tamilians and over 70 per cent are locals in Hyderabad, Kannadigas represent a mere 25 per cent in Bengaluru.
The organisation aims to use the collected data to push for legislation based on the recommendations of the Sarojini Mahishi committee.
Gowda said the campaign will continue through November and will extend to banking institutions and corporate offices. The KRV has given companies a one-week deadline to share the requested employment statistics.
