Meta raises $15 billion through five-part US dollar bond sale

The Facebook parent is using debt markets to fund its growing investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Meta Platforms is raising $15 billion through a five-part US dollar bond offering to finance its expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure, according to reports by The Economic Times and Moneycontrol.

The company intends to use the funds for AI-related needs, including cloud infrastructure, computing capacity and data centres.

A regulatory filing shows the offering includes $3.25 billion in notes maturing in 2031 with a 5.85% coupon rate. Another $3.25 billion tranche is due in 2033 with a 6.25% coupon.

This debt issuance follows recent developments where Meta increased its plans for a potential $97.5 billion equity raise.

The move reflects a trend where major technology firms are accessing debt and equity markets to meet the high capital requirements of the global AI race.

Reuters reported that the aggressive fundraising strategy is driven by the need to secure advanced chips and build infrastructure for sophisticated AI models and services.
