Naidu seeks Union Minister's help to clear stranded chilli containers

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has requested Piyush Goyal to resolve the issue of 150 chilli containers held at Colombo port.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has written to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to help export over 150 containers of chilli currently stuck at the Colombo port in Sri Lanka, according to The Hindu.

The Chief Minister’s Office said on Wednesday that the consignments, worth approximately Rs 60 crore, were meant for markets in China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore.

The goods were held at the port because their moisture levels reportedly exceeded the permitted limit. Naidu noted that this delay would result in significant financial losses for both exporters and farmers.

The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to hold discussions with the relevant countries to ensure the shipments are cleared and exported.

In a separate matter, Naidu has also approached Union Home Minister Amit Shah to request financial aid for damage caused by Cyclones Arnab and Murasu. The state government has estimated losses from Cyclone Arnab at Rs 4,563 crore, affecting 781 villages across 16 districts.
