Odisha receives Rs 1.17 lakh crore in clean energy investment proposals
The 18 agreements envisage adding 11,742 MW of capacity to the state's power system.
Odisha has received clean-energy investment proposals worth Rs 1.17 lakh crore, according to Urban Acres. The 18 MoUs signed at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 in New Delhi envisage adding 11,742 MW of capacity to the state's power system.
The proposed capacity is more than twice the current renewable energy capacity of 3,691 MW in Odisha. These agreements cover various technologies, including solar, wind, pumped storage, battery storage, green hydrogen, and green data centres.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo inaugurated the Odisha pavilion at the event. Gridco managing director Satya Priya Rath exchanged the MoUs with industry representatives.
The state aims to source 74 per cent of its installed power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2047. Chief Minister Majhi said the government is focusing on a stable policy framework, transmission infrastructure expansion, and time-bound clearances through a single-window mechanism.
Under the Mukhya Mantri Shakti Bikash Yojana, Rs 15,948 crore has been sanctioned for the modernisation and expansion of the power transmission network. Union renewable energy secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi noted that Odisha has a target of 10.96 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022.
Gridco has also signed agreements with the Centre for Mission on Energy Transition at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in Bhopal, Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd, and IIT Bhubaneswar to cooperate on grid modernisation and research.
