Four trains cancelled after railway track blast in Rajasthan border district
Authorities are investigating a suspicious explosion on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh line in Sri Ganganagar near the India-Pakistan border.
An explosion damaged the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway line in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district late Tuesday night, according to reports from Urban Acres, News18 and The Federal. The blast occurred near 50 GB village in the Ram Singhpur area, close to the India-Pakistan international border.
The explosion took place roughly 45 minutes after a passenger train had travelled from Anupgarh Junction towards Suratgarh. The blast created a crater nearly two feet deep beneath the tracks and damaged concrete sleepers and pillars. No casualties were reported.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) Inspector General Jyoti Kumar Satija confirmed that teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) reached the site. The RPF is also conducting a separate examination of the incident.
Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar Yadav said investigators are examining the intensity of the explosion and the material used. He stated it is too early to determine the exact nature of the incident and noted there is no established link to the 7.5 kg of suspected RDX recently recovered in the border region.
As a precaution, the North Western Railway cancelled four services on Wednesday, November 4. The cancelled trains are 59711, 59712, 59715 and 59716, which operate between Suratgarh and Anupgarh.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and a Bomb Disposal Squad are working to identify the explosive material and determine how the device was triggered.
