Sarfaraz Khan questions motivation amid continued India exclusion

The Mumbai batter said he questions why he should work hard as he continues to wait for a national team comeback.

Mumbai cricketer Sarfaraz Khan has admitted that he questions his motivation every morning as he remains excluded from the Indian national team. Speaking after the first day of a Ranji Trophy match against Railways at Brabourne Stadium, the batter said he asks himself why he should work hard and undergo the same routine repeatedly.

According to reports by The Indian Express and Times Now, the batter has not played for India since the 2024 Test series against New Zealand. Although he was called up as an injury replacement for the Sri Lanka series, he was not included in the playing XI.

Sarfaraz stated that his father, Naushad, is the only person who has supported him in his career. He said that seeing his father work hard is the only factor motivating him to continue scoring runs.

The batter also addressed perceptions regarding his ability to play in overseas conditions. He noted that he scored a 61-ball century in South Africa and a 76-ball 101 in England, questioning the idea that he is only suited for Indian conditions.

To improve his fitness, Sarfaraz said he has lost 22 kg after hearing comments on social media. He added that he will continue to play for Mumbai and will play for India if the selectors call him up.
