Telangana: Applicants to take learner's licence test from home soon
The state Transport department is preparing to pilot an AI-enabled testing facility through the Centre's Sarathi portal within a week.
Applicants in Telangana will soon be able to take their Learner’s Licence (LL) examinations from their homes, according to The New Indian Express.
Transport Commissioner K Ilambarithi told the outlet that the state is preparing to pilot an AI-enabled testing facility through the Centre’s Sarathi portal in a week. This initiative aims to remove the requirement for candidates to visit Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for the test, though an option to test at an RTO will remain available.
The system, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), will use facial recognition and webcam-based authentication to prevent malpractice. To ensure the candidate is physically present, the liveness detection process will require them to perform specific facial movements, such as blinking and smiling, in front of the webcam.
The examination will be conducted via the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) to block access to other websites or applications. If a candidate fails facial authentication after the allowed attempts, they must visit an RTO for verification.
Successful candidates will be able to download their Learner’s Licence PDF, which will include a QR code. The portal will also provide a response analysis report detailing correct, incorrect, and unanswered questions.
