Three drown in swollen rivers of Rayagada in Odisha

Rescue personnel have recovered two bodies while a 14-year-old boy remains missing following rising river levels caused by cyclone Arnab.

Three people have died in the Rayagada district of Odisha after being swept away by strong currents in swollen rivers, according to The New Indian Express.

Fire services personnel recovered the body of 19-year-old Prabhat Kumar Pani from the Nagavali river on Tuesday. Pani had gone missing on Sunday while bathing near Antariguda.

The body of B Pagadalu, a 63-year-old woman from Katalaguda village, was also recovered from the Vansadhara river. She had gone missing on November 1 after entering the river to bathe.

A search operation is currently underway for 14-year-old Kani Khosala, who was swept away in the Jhanjavati river near Ambaguda on Tuesday morning.

In the neighbouring Gajapati district, authorities have suspended the search for 52-year-old Pitambar Badhiasahu, who went missing in the Mahendratanaya river on October 30.

The administration withdrew rescue teams from the Gajapati search due to cyclone Murasu, prompting the family of the missing man to hire a private rescue team at their own expense.
