Delhi Food Safety Department destroys 7,000 kg khoya at Mori Gate
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected the raid as 35 out of 44 samples failed preliminary testing ahead of Diwali.
The Delhi Food Safety Department seized and disposed of around 7,000 kg of unhygienic and foul-smelling khoya at the Mori Gate Khoya Market on Tuesday. According to ANI and The New Indian Express, the operation was part of an enforcement campaign against food adulteration during the festive season.
Officials used a mobile laboratory called Food Safety on Wheels to perform on-site tests. Out of 44 surveillance samples collected, 35 failed the preliminary screening. The department stated that the tests indicated the presence of binding agents, vanaspati, and milk powder in the material.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the market to inspect the crackdown. She directed officials to ensure that any suspected products are prevented from entering the supply chain to reach consumers. Gupta said the government would not compromise on public health and warned that those involved in adulteration would face strict legal action, regardless of their influence.
This was the fourth operation conducted by the department at the Mori Gate Khoya Market. Previous destructions included 2,830 kg on September 4, 610 kg on September 8, and 520 kg on October 23. The total amount of khoya destroyed during this campaign has now reached 10,660 kg.
Two additional samples have been sent for detailed laboratory analysis. Further investigations are currently underway to determine the extent of the adulteration and those responsible.
