Tamil Nadu urologists working as casualty officers due to lack of vacancies
Twelve specialists who finished their M.Ch. Urology in 2025 have been providing emergency care at government medical college hospitals for nearly a year.
Twelve government urologists have been serving as casualty medical officers (CMO) at emergency departments in Tamil Nadu for almost a year, according to The Hindu.
The specialists, who completed their M.Ch. Urology in 2025, have been performing daily tasks such as providing emergency care and maintaining accident registries.
While many service postgraduates who finished DM or M.Ch. degrees in 2025 were sent to their respective departments, these urologists were assigned to emergency roles.
The Hindu reported that some of these specialists were posted to new medical college hospitals that are currently operating without super speciality departments.
The situation has arisen because there are no available vacancies within their specific super speciality departments across the state.
