VTU to introduce on-demand examinations for students

The university will replace supplementary exams with a system that allows students to request tests at their convenience.

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has decided to conduct on-demand examinations to prevent students from losing an academic year. According to The Hindu, the university will implement this system for those who miss scheduled semester exams or fail in one or more subjects.

VTU Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar told The Hindu that the initiative aims to provide greater convenience. He stated that the university has made necessary preparations and will conduct an exam even if only one student requests it.

Under the new system, students can request tests at times that suit them, including on public holidays. The university intends to release results for these examinations within 24 hours.

VTU will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to prepare question papers, utilizing an existing bank of 500-600 papers per subject. The university has also deployed the staff required to manage the process.

The university has instructed its 220 affiliated engineering colleges to inform students about this opportunity. Details regarding the application process, eligibility, and schedules will be announced shortly.

VTU currently has around three lakh students, with approximately 70,000 new admissions every year. Previously, students who failed subjects had to wait six to seven months to reappear for examinations.
