West Bengal Madhyamik 2027 exams may be postponed to March 2

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has proposed shifting the Class 10 exams to avoid clashes with upcoming census work.

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has proposed a revised schedule for the 2027 Madhyamik examinations, shifting the start date from February 15 to March 2, according to reports by News18, India TV, and Telegraph India.

The proposed change aims to avoid a clash with the upcoming census exercise, which is scheduled to run from January 25 to February 28, 2027. This exercise will require the deployment of teachers for enumeration work during the period originally set for the exams.

Under the new proposal, the examinations would be held from March 2 to March 16, instead of the earlier schedule of February 15 to February 25. WBBSE president Laltu Das stated that the board has sent the proposal to the state School Education Department and that nothing has been finalised yet.

The proposed subject-wise schedule includes the first language paper on March 2, the second language on March 3, and History on March 5. Other subjects include Geography on March 8, Mathematics on March 12, Physical Science on March 13, Life Science on March 15, and optional elective subjects on March 16.

The examinations are expected to be conducted in pen-and-paper mode. While the standard timing is proposed for 10:45 am to 2 pm, the board noted that certain vocational or specialised elective exams may conclude between 12:30 pm and 3 pm.

The revised dates await approval from the state School Education Department. Students can check for official updates and the detailed schedule on the board's official website, wbbse.wb.gov.in.
