Goa college introduces certificate course on marriage readiness

The 15-day programme aims to help students and young adults understand the responsibilities and commitments required for healthy, lasting relationships.

The Goa College of Home Science has launched a certificate course titled “Marriage Readiness: Preparing for Healthy and Lasting Relationships”. According to Telangana Today, the programme will be conducted by the college’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies from December 2 to 17, 2026.

Principal Mahesh Pai told PTI that the course focuses on building healthy relationships through an understanding of oneself, a partner, and the responsibilities of married life. He noted that the course goes beyond wedding preparations.

The initiative follows a statement by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in Panaji on Sunday, where he said the Goa government intends to introduce pre-marriage counselling across the state to reduce divorces. Data from the State Law Department shows that civil courts in Goa received over 3,000 petitions related to marriage and divorce between 2022 and 2025, with 947 filed in 2024.

The course is open to postgraduate and undergraduate students, unmarried young adults, and others interested in the subject. Sessions will cover topics including dating dynamics, self-awareness, masculinity and femininity in relationships, and the difference between a wedding and a marriage.
