While the national Total Fertility Rate remained at 2.0, Bihar recorded the highest rate and West Bengal and Delhi the lowest, according to The Hindu.
India has maintained its Total Fertility Rate (TFR) at 2.0, which is the same as the figure reported in 2020, according to a report by The Hindu.
The Sample Registration System (SRS) Statistical Report of 2021 was recently released by the Office of the Registrar General of India.
Although the national average remained unchanged, there is wide regional variation in the TFR data reported independently for States and Union Territories (UTs).
Bihar recorded the highest TFR at 3.0, while the lowest TFR of 1.4 was reported for West Bengal and Delhi.
Data from the decade between 2009-11 and 2019-21 shows that the TFR has been on an overall decline nationally and in States, though at different rates.
