Trump jokes about moving to Israel to become prime minister

The US President claimed he has a 99 per cent approval rating in Israel during a Fox News interview on Tuesday.

US President Donald Trump suggested he might relocate to Israel to serve as its prime minister if he loses support in the United States. According to reports from Hindustan Times, News18 and Moneycontrol, Trump made these remarks during a Fox News interview on Tuesday, November 3, which coincided with the US midterm elections.

Trump claimed he holds a 99 per cent approval rating in Israel, describing it as the highest approval rating of anyone in history. He did not provide any polling data to support this figure. He attributed his popularity in the country to his administration's actions against Iran.

During the same appearance, Trump announced that the US would stop providing approximately $4 billion in annual financial assistance to Israel after the end of 2026. He stated that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had discussed this move and that Israel no longer requires the funds.

Trump noted that the US would continue to help Israel and sell weapons to the country if they need assistance. While the current US-Israel aid agreement runs through September 2028, Trump said the decision to stop the payments was made months ago.

The President's comments come as he faces domestic political challenges. While Trump praised his leadership, opinion polls cited by CNN showed his US approval rating at 34 per cent as of October 27, with 64 per cent of respondents disapproving of his performance.
