Trump says US will end $4 billion annual aid to Israel

The US President stated Israel is economically prosperous enough to purchase its own weapons without American financial support.

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Washington will stop providing approximately USD 4 billion in yearly assistance to Israel by the end of this year, according to Kalinga TV. Speaking during an interview with Fox News, Trump said Israel is a thriving and prosperous nation that no longer requires such financial help.

Trump suggested he had reached an understanding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the decision, which he noted had been discussed for several years. He added that while the funding would end, the US would still assist Israel if necessary and that the country could instead purchase American military equipment.

Democratic Party Chairman Yair Golan criticised the move, describing it as a major hit to the security and quality of life in Israel. In a post on X, Golan stated that the decision comes while defence expenditures are high and air defence capabilities have eroded following a prolonged war.

Golan further argued that the financial responsibility for meeting security needs would fall on the Israeli public. He criticised Prime Minister Netanyahu, claiming a responsible leader would fight to increase aid rather than dismantle it.

The current security assistance agreement provides about USD 3.8 billion annually through 2028. While the funding is set to end, the US is expected to continue selling military equipment to Israel.
