Indian sailor killed in attack on vessel off Oman coast

Thirteen other Indian nationals were rescued after the MSV Al Jusufi was attacked near Limah on Monday evening.

An Indian sailor died following an attack on the commercial vessel MSV Al Jusufi near Limah, Oman, on Monday evening, according to Rediff.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Tuesday that 13 of the 14 Indian nationals on board were successfully rescued. One Indian national lost his life after sustaining injuries during the incident.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that 23 Indian nationals have been killed in the West Asia conflict since February, including 15 seafarers. Jaiswal also noted that five Indians have been killed in attacks in the Black Sea region, with two others still missing.

The MEA condemned the attack and expressed concern over continuing incidents targeting commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region. The ministry called for the immediate de-escalation of tensions and a diplomatic solution to restore peace and stability.

The Indian embassy in Oman is monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities to repatriate the 13 rescued nationals and the mortal remains of the deceased sailor.

The MEA added that the targeting of commercial shipping must end and that free, unimpeded navigation through international waterways must be restored in accordance with international law.
