Essex couple builds 400-metre miniature railway in garden
Dave and Angela Walker spent eight years constructing the track and five locomotives on their quarter-acre property in Clacton-on-Sea.
A couple in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, has spent eight years building a miniature railway within their quarter-acre garden, according to the Times of India.
Dave Walker, 54, and Angela Walker, 55, constructed the 400-metre track themselves, including digging the track beds. The railway features five locomotives and thousands of custom-made sleepers.
The project involved collecting memorabilia and accessories from across the world to add character to the line. Dave Walker, who is also a DJ, said the couple spent at least five figures on the project.
Dave Walker told the Manchester Evening News that the railway has significantly impacted their property value, noting that the house is either unsellable or worth triple its value. He added that the project was a shared effort and expressed satisfaction with the result.
Angela Walker said the couple enjoys their non-traditional home. The pair intends to use the miniature railway to raise funds for the local lifeboat station through community events.
