Woman falls 16 feet into underground pit in Madhya Pradesh Bhind

A 45-year-old woman was injured after the floor of her room collapsed into a pre-Independence era grain storage pit on Wednesday night.

A 45-year-old woman sustained injuries after the floor of her room in the Girls' School Lane area of Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, collapsed on Wednesday night. According to NewsX, the woman fell approximately 15 to 16 feet into an underground pit while she was changing her bedsheet.

The woman fell into the pit along with her bed. Her family members heard the commotion and used a ladder to reach her and pull her out of the pit.

The woman was subsequently taken to a hospital where she is undergoing treatment. The house is built over an old underground grain storage pit that reportedly dates back to the pre-Independence era.

The house owner stated that his father and uncle renovated the house in 1980 and sealed the underground storage pit. However, the family believes that water seepage over the years had gradually weakened the building's structure.

The family said the seepage created an empty space beneath the floor, which contributed to the collapse. Several structural changes had also been made to the building over the years.
