Jammu: Officials discuss measures to prevent bird hazards near airport

Divisional Commissioner Vikas Kundal chaired a meeting to review safety protocols and ensure uninterrupted operations at the Jammu airport.

Jammu Divisional Commissioner Vikas Kundal chaired a meeting on Tuesday to review steps for preventing bird hazards near Jammu airport, according to The Tribune.

The meeting included the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation, the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, and the Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Station Jammu, among other officials.

Kundal instructed departments to stop fresh garbage from being left in identified areas and to move current waste via specific routes to reduce food sources for birds.

He also called for trenching along the access road to the waste site and requested regular checks to stop illegal dumping, noting that penalties should be applied for violations.

The Divisional Commissioner asked Air Force authorities to look into extra preventive measures and best practices used at other airports to mitigate bird risks.

Other safety concerns discussed included drone threats, a 40-metre-high microwave tower near the western runway, and the inaccessibility of Landoi Nallah.
