Yadgir official says measures underway to address water and fodder crisis

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandve stated that funds and contingency plans are in place to manage drinking water and livestock feed shortages.

Yadgir Deputy Commissioner Rahul Pandve said on Thursday that the district has started necessary steps to manage the drinking water shortage and ensure enough fodder for livestock. According to The Hindu, Pandve, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, told media persons that there will be no delay in resolving these scarcity issues.

Pandve stated that officials from the Panchayat Raj Department and the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department have been told to maintain a continuous supply of potable water to rural areas. He noted that Rs 9 crore is available in the Deputy Commissioner’s Personal Deposit account to handle the water crisis and emergency works under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms.

Regarding rural water infrastructure, Pandve said repair work is currently happening for non-functional Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants. Of the 127 dysfunctional plants identified a few months ago, 77 have been repaired, while 30 to 40 units that cannot be fixed will be replaced.

The Deputy Commissioner confirmed that the district has enough fodder for the next 38 weeks. He mentioned that fodder banks will be set up if reserves fall to a four-week level and that he has held talks with the Raichur district Deputy Commissioner regarding emergency inter-district supplies.

Pandve also announced a Rs 4.74 crore plan to develop the Sanna Kere area near Lumbini Garden, which includes desilting the lake and building walking tracks. Additionally, the Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB) has approved Rs 7 crore for the rejuvenation of Yadgir Fort by the Tourism Department.

Responding to the Yadgir bandh called by the BJP, farmers association, pro-Kannada, and Dalit units to demand water for crops, the Deputy Commissioner said the decisions from the ICC meeting are being implemented.
