Dacoit Kalli Gurjar arrested after encounter in Morena
The wanted criminal, who carried a reward of Rs 80,000, sustained a leg injury during the shootout with police.
Chambal dacoit Kalli Gurjar and his associate Ajay Gurjar were arrested in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district on Thursday following an encounter, according to the Hindustan Times. The confrontation occurred around 10 am in a forest area near Pahadi village after a Banmore police team acted on a tip-off.
Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Meena told reporters that the Kalli gang opened fire, prompting police to retaliate in self-defence. Kalli sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was taken to a district hospital, where doctors stated his condition is out of danger.
Police recovered a pistol and a firearm from Kalli, while a 12-bore gun and 50 live cartridges were seized from Ajay Gurjar. Other members of the gang managed to escape during the encounter.
Kalli, a resident of Barbasin village, is wanted by Rajasthan police and faces approximately 20 serious criminal cases in Morena, Gwalior, and Sheopur districts. These charges include murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and dacoity.
The dacoit had a reward of Rs 80,000 announced for his arrest. He was known to use social media to threaten rivals and was allegedly involved in an extortion attempt on a container truck driver in Gwalior about three months ago.
