Delhi air quality worsens as AQI reaches 370 on Thursday morning

Multiple monitoring stations in the capital recorded severe pollution levels as the overall air quality index stayed in the very poor category.

Delhi's air quality was recorded in the very poor category at 8 am on Thursday, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 370, according to the Indian Express. Several areas in the capital reached severe pollution levels, with Jahangirpuri reporting the highest AQI of 459.

At least 10 monitoring stations recorded AQI levels above 400, placing them in the severe category. These locations included Alipur at 433, Bawana at 413, Mundka at 423, Narela at 434, Okhla Phase 2 at 401, Patparganj at 407, Punjabi Bagh at 448, RK Puram at 418, Rohini at 432, Sirifort at 404, and Sonia Vihar at 423.

The Air Quality Early Warning System stated that air quality is likely to remain very poor on Thursday before potentially deteriorating to the severe category between November 6 and 7. Forecaster Navdeep Dahiya noted that wind speeds could increase to 10–20 kmph on November 6 and 7, which might improve AQI by 20–30 per cent in the afternoon and evening.

However, Dahiya also cautioned that winds might weaken between November 8 and 13 due to an approaching western disturbance. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Tuesday that the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) is monitoring meteorological conditions and taking necessary steps based on assessments.
