Heavy rain expected in Theni and Coimbatore districts

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across parts of Tamil Nadu.

Theni and Coimbatore districts in Tamil Nadu are expected to experience heavy rain with thunder and lightning, according to a forecast by the Chennai Meteorological Centre reported by Urban Acres.

The weather office said the conditions are due to atmospheric circulation over the southern coastal parts of Tamil Nadu, as well as circulation over Karnataka and Lakshadweep.

Chennai and its surrounding areas are likely to see cloudy skies with some light or moderate rainfall and lightning, though the forecast did not predict heavy rain for the city.

Cuddalore recorded 9 centimetres of rain during the 24-hour period ending the previous morning, the weather office stated.

A separate forecast for Deepavali on November 8 lists Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul and Kanniyakumari as districts where heavy rain is possible.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre noted that rain could persist in some districts over the next five days.
