Cyclone Murasu causes heavy rainfall in parts of Telangana

Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts recorded significant rain as the cyclone impacted the state.

Parts of Telangana experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the impact of Cyclone Murasu, according to reports by The Hindu and The New Indian Express. The Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts were previously under a red alert for heavy to very heavy rain.

In Bhadradri Kothagudem, a mandal received 278.5 mm of rain in Aswaraopet by 8.00 p.m. on November 4. Other significant measurements in the district included 188.3 mm in Malkaram, 175 mm in Ankampalem, and 149.8 mm in Mulakalapally.

Khammam also recorded heavy rainfall, with Vemsoor receiving 204.7 mm during the night of November 3 and 4. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad issued an orange alert for Bhadradri Kothagudem on Wednesday, predicting heavy to very heavy rain, while moderate to heavy rain was expected in Mulugu and Khammam.

The weather conditions led to disruptions in transport. South Central Railway (SCR) reported that seven trains were cancelled, eight were rescheduled, and eight were diverted. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunpreet Singh advised IT companies to allow staggered logouts by 4 pm on November 3 and 5 to manage travel risks and road pressure.

The IMD expects rainfall activity to persist on Thursday, though the intensity may decrease.
