South Tamil Nadu likely to see wet Deepavali with heavy rain forecast

The Regional Meteorological Centre predicts enhanced rainfall activity in southern and delta districts until November 8 due to strengthening easterlies.

South Tamil Nadu is expected to receive heavy showers until November 8 as a cyclonic circulation and strengthening easterlies push intense rainfall towards the region, according to The Hindu.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast enhanced rainfall activity starting from November 5. This follows the weakening of Cyclone Murasu into a well-marked low pressure area, which is set to return the Northeast monsoon to an active phase.

V.R. Durai, Head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, said Tamil Nadu is likely to experience a wet Deepavali this year. He stated that an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu and the neighbourhood would bring widespread rainfall, particularly over southern and delta districts.

Heavy rainfall is expected to be concentrated over Theni, Dindigul, and Madurai districts on November 5. This is predicted to spread to Thoothukudi and Sivaganga on November 6, while Thanjavur, Ramanathapuram, and Tiruvarur may see heavy rain on November 8.

North coastal districts will experience wet weather due to strengthening moist, easterly winds until November 8. Areas along the Western Ghats have chances of moderate rainfall this week, while other places may receive light rain.

Tamil Nadu's seasonal rainfall remains at an 11 per cent surplus than the normal share of 20.2 cm since October 1. Officials said the ongoing wet weather is expected to increase this surplus, with the possibility of enhanced rainfall activity after November 8.
