Tamil Nadu and Puducherry face storm risk as Murasu weakens

The India Meteorological Department predicts thunderstorms and gusty winds in several regions while a depression moves over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across various parts of India, with the most significant activity expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, according to Urban Acres.

The remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu has weakened into a depression. As of 5.30 am IST on Wednesday, the system was located over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh, near Nandigama in Andhra Pradesh and Khammam in Telangana.

The IMD stated the depression is likely to move northwards and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, thunderstorms and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph, are expected through November 8.

Heavy rainfall is forecast for isolated areas in Tamil Nadu on November 6 and 7. For Wednesday, the IMD predicted heavy rain in the Madurai, Theni, and Dindigul districts, with more concentrated activity near the Western Ghats.

Other regions including North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and parts of Madhya Pradesh may see rainfall and gusty winds. In Himachal Pradesh, a Western Disturbance is causing light to moderate rain, with potential light snowfall in Kinnaur, Shimla, and Lahaul-Spiti.

Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and West Bengal are expected to remain largely dry. While Delhi may see partly cloudy skies, West Bengal could see minimum temperatures drop by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the next three days.
