CNG conversion demand rises by 50 per cent in NCR
New Delhi vehicle entry restrictions for older non-Delhi registered cars have triggered a surge in CNG installation enquiries.
CNG installation centres in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram have reported an increase in demand of up to 50 per cent following new vehicle restrictions in Delhi, according to Mathrubhumi.
The rules, which came into effect on November 1, prevent non-Delhi registered petrol and diesel vehicles that do not meet BS-VI emission standards from entering the capital. These restrictions apply to BS-IV and older models and are set to continue until January 31, 2027. Electric and CNG vehicles, as well as certain emergency vehicles, are not subject to these rules.
In Noida, car expert Shakti Singh said demand for conversions rose by more than 50 per cent over the last 15 days. He noted that conversion costs begin at approximately Rs 35,000, which can be more affordable for middle-class families than buying new cars.
Yatin Bansal of Car Craft in Noida reported that daily enquiries have increased by nearly 50 per cent. He stated that conversion costs for BS-IV vehicles range from Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000, while BS-VI vehicles cost between Rs 50,000 and Rs 70,000.
In Ghaziabad, one installer reported completing four to five vehicle conversions in just two to three days, whereas they usually finish that many in a week. Similarly, a centre in Karnal saw a 25-30 per cent rise in installations.
