Central Railway to restrict platform ticket sales at five Mumbai stations

The temporary measure aims to manage passenger crowds during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja festive period.

Central Railway will limit the sale of platform tickets at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Thane, and Kalyan from November 5 to 15, according to Urban Acres.

The decision was announced in a press release on Wednesday to manage the expected surge of travellers during Diwali and Chhath Puja.

The restriction is intended to limit the number of people on platforms and reduce congestion at these major transit points.

Central Railway stated that platform tickets will still be issued to certain individuals, including senior citizens, children, women needing support, and ailing passengers.

Western Railway has also announced similar restrictions at Bandra Terminus and five stations in its Mumbai Central Division, including Vapi, Valsad, Udhna, Surat, and Bhestan, until November 15.

Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said the move is a precautionary step to assist with the safe boarding and alighting of passengers during the heavy movement expected for Diwali 2026 and Chhath Puja.
