DRDO successfully flight-tests Pralay quasi-ballistic missile off Odisha coast

The successful trial of the indigenously developed missile makes its induction into the armed forces imminent, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested the indigenously developed Pralay quasi-ballistic missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on Thursday, November 5, 2026. According to The Hindu, the missile was test-fired at approximately 11:10 a.m. as part of user evaluation trials.

The short-range surface-to-surface missile is capable of carrying conventional warheads with a payload ranging between 500 kg and 1,000 kg. It uses solid propellant and advanced guidance and navigation systems to ensure high precision against various targets.

The Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories, developed the missile. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) acted as a development-cum-production partner and manufactured the system.

Data captured by range instruments from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur confirmed that all test objectives were fully met. The trial was witnessed by senior DRDO officials, industry representatives, and members of the armed forces.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO and its partners, stating that the advanced technology in the missile would improve military operational preparedness against emerging threats. Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh also congratulated the associated teams.

The Ministry of Defence noted that the successful completion of this trial makes the induction of the missile into the armed forces imminent.
