NIT Warangal signs agreement to commercialise ozone disinfection technology
The partnership with MOHSoft Tech Private Limited aims to manufacture systems that eliminate up to 99.9 per cent of pathogens.
The National Institute of Technology Warangal (NITW) signed a technology transfer agreement with MOHSoft Tech Private Limited on Thursday to commercialise an indigenous ozone-based disinfection technology. The technology was developed by researchers within the institute's Department of Physics, according to reports by The Hindu and Telangana Today.
The disinfection systems are intended for use in industrial establishments, food-processing units, public transport, healthcare facilities, and public institutions. Under the terms of the agreement, MOHSoft Tech will hold the rights to market, scale up, and manufacture the technology for both domestic and international markets.
The system utilises the oxidising nature of ozone to remove up to 99.9 per cent of bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens under specific operating conditions. Unlike traditional chemical disinfectants, the ozone decomposes into oxygen after use, which reduces issues regarding chemical residues.
NITW Director Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi stated that the collaboration would assist in turning research outcomes into practical solutions and encourage the wider use of the indigenous technology. The inventors, Prof.
D. Harnath and Prof. R.
Rakesh, said the research focused on using ozone's properties to create a sustainable disinfection solution.
MOHSoft Tech CEO and Co-Founder Subha Chaganty said the company would merge the research expertise of the institute with its own engineering capabilities. The two organisations also plan to work together on further research and development to produce automated, commercially viable systems.
Shyam Mamidi, the company’s Chief Strategy Officer and Co-Founder, said commercial production for the initial batch of industrial ozone disinfection systems is expected to start early next year, with pilot deployments to follow.
