Nintendo releases Ocarina of Time remake for Zelda 40th anniversary
The new action-adventure title has received high scores on Metacritic ahead of its global launch on Thursday.
Nintendo released the remake of its classic 1990s game, Ocarina of Time, on Thursday as part of the 40th anniversary of the Zelda series, according to the Hindustan Times.
The title has earned a score of 96 out of 100 on the aggregator site Metacritic, placing it among the highest-rated games of the year.
Producer Eiji Aonuma told AFP last month that he felt nervous about the release, stating he could not stop thinking about how it would turn out.
Reviewers have offered positive feedback, with the Guardian newspaper describing the work as a transformation of a 1990s classic into a top title for the 2020s.
The Zelda series was created in 1986 by Shigeru Miyamoto and follows the warrior Link as he battles Ganondorf to save Princess Zelda.
Market analysts are monitoring if the release will increase sales for the Switch 2, which became the fastest-selling console following its 2025 release.
