Nintendo releases Ocarina of Time remake for Zelda 40th anniversary

The new action-adventure title has received high praise from critics and fans following its release on Thursday.

Nintendo released the Ocarina of Time remake on Thursday as part of the 40th anniversary of the Zelda saga, according to the Hindustan Times.

The game, a remake of a classic title from the 1990s, earned a score of 96 out of 100 on the aggregator site Metacritic before its launch.

Producer Eiji Aonuma told AFP last month that he felt nervous about the release, stating he could not stop thinking about how it would turn out.

The Zelda series was created in 1986 by Shigeru Miyamoto. The previous two major entries, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, had combined sales exceeding 55 million copies.

Reviewers have offered positive feedback, with the Guardian newspaper describing the game as one of the best of the 2020s. The US outlet IGN called it an exceptional remake.

Market analysts are monitoring if the title will increase sales for the Switch 2, which was released in 2025. Nintendo reported a drop in quarterly net profit on Thursday but kept its annual forecasts.
