Nothing to launch first AI-native product next month
The London-based company plans to release a dedicated hardware tool that does not include a new screen.
London-based company Nothing will launch its first AI-native product next month, according to reports from The Hindu and Business Today. CEO Carl Pei confirmed the upcoming release in a post on X, though he has not disclosed the product's name, design, or price.
Pei stated that the new hardware tool will not feature a new screen and noted that the device could not be replicated as a software application. He argued that searching for an 'iPhone moment' in AI by focusing on gadgets like smart glasses or pendants is a dead end.
The company believes AI's immediate value is found in professional productivity. Pei noted that enterprise spending is currently concentrated in sectors such as coding, IT, customer support, and legal services. He compared the current stage of AI to the early days of personal computers and mobile phones, which became essential work tools before becoming consumer staples.
A primary focus for the new product is addressing the 'context gap.' Pei observed that users currently spend significant effort manually providing information from emails and calendars into text boxes. He suggested that AI should be integrated into daily work tools to better understand real-time activity and spontaneous thoughts.
Nothing intends to move AI from a tool that requires manual interaction to a proactive assistant that manages routine operations. The company also aims to combine functional workplace technology with thoughtful design.
