Nintendo releases Ocarina of Time remake for Zelda 40th anniversary
The new action-adventure title has received high scores on Metacritic ahead of its global launch on Thursday.
Nintendo released the Ocarina of Time remake on Thursday as part of the 40th anniversary of the Zelda saga, according to the Hindustan Times. The game is a remake of a classic title from the 1990s.
The title has earned a score of 96 out of 100 on the aggregator site Metacritic before its release. US outlet IGN described the game as an exceptional remake and a rich adventure.
Producer Eiji Aonuma told AFP last month that he felt nervous about the release. However, Keza MacDonald of the Guardian newspaper gave the game a five-star review, stating the team turned a top 1990s game into one of the best of the 2020s.
The Zelda series was created in 1986 by Shigeru Miyamoto. The previous two major entries, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, had combined sales of over 55 million copies.
In Tokyo, 27-year-old fan Takumi Kawata told AFP he was excited about the improved graphics. His brother, 31-year-old Kousuke Kawata, said the visuals and forests are stunning.
Market analysts are monitoring if the title will increase sales for the Switch 2, which became the fastest-selling console upon its 2025 release. Nintendo reported a drop in quarterly net profit on Thursday but kept its annual forecasts.
